The Technos are a highly intelligent and advanced group of people led by a wheelchair bound genius, Ram, who invaded the City in order to bring order to the chaos. They truly believe that they are benefiting all those who live in the City by restoring electricity, food and water, and all for just some co-operative labor on the citizens part.

Though the Technos do not possess extremely large numbers, they more than make up for this disadvantage by the technology that they wield: which includes zappers and Reality Space capabilities. They managed to capture half of the city's population, most of whom were used as Reality Space guinea pigs or shipped off by plane and sold into slavery.

The Technos are later defeated by the Mall Rats, but Mega gains power by creating the Zootists to scare the city into obeying him and the Technos. The ruse was discovered and Mega is defeated, but he secretly created and unleashed the Virus Mark II which forced the entire city to evacuate. The Technos were disbanded from this point but some managed to flee to Ram's Hometown where they form a new tribe called "The Virts" under Ved's leadership.

Techno Symbol

The distinctive symbol of the Technos is a small black 'T' design surrounded by a red circle. What also distinguishes the Technos from any other tribe is the full length black and silver uniform that they wear, and the silver masks that are used to conceal their individual identities. They also have red markings on the sides of their cheeks or below their eyes.

Technology[]

The Technos have stun guns, which can be set to different levels. A person is temporarily knocked out if the stun gun is set at a low level, but if set at a high level it has enough power to kill a person. Lex, Dee, Jay and Slade have been knocked unconscious from a stun gun set at a low level. While Pride, Java and Siva have died from being shot with a stun gun set at a high level. The Stun Guns could also be collectively controlled through computer software, which allowed them to be disabled leaving the Technos vulnerable.

The Technos have City Net, which is a broadcasting platform to the whole city. Ram and Mega would broadcast announcements or Virtual Reality battles, such as Lex's virtual battles for entertainment. They also installed numerous security cameras throughout the city to keep an eye on things.

Most importantly they have an advanced Reality Space system, which people can access using Headsets. Ram creates a game called Paradise that he gives to the city for free. Almost the entire city becomes addicted to it and become desperate to do anything to play the game which lasts for only a limited period. This makes them easy participants to do labour for the Technos to gain a new game card, which is just what they want in order to manipulate the city into doing their bidding.

The Technos forcibly captured half of the city's population to be used as guinea pigs for Virtual Reality experiments, which made them disturbingly pale and fatigued. Being in Reality Space for too long can cause a person to be unable to distinguish real from fake. Amber, Pride, May and most of the city's population have suffered from these effects. Reality Space can also kill a person if the system is adjusted to be so. Lex and Ved were wounded in reality space battles. After the AI Zoot takes over the Techno computers, it was able to kill anyone who entered Virtual Reality to try stopping it. Ram is wounded and Mega ends up dying after they attempted to stop the AI Zoot.

Ram also had technology to go into Cryosleep, which he intended to use so he could be in Virtual Reality forever but was stopped by the Mall Rats. It's later revealed that Ram had gotten most of the Techno technology from Eagle Mountain's hidden levels, that could only be accessed by a code. Ram had stolen this information from The Collective and fled to take the technology for himself. No one but Ram knew of this as he did it to protect himself from possible betrayal. The technology was originally intended to be used for the adults if they awoken from Cryosleep, but Ram used it for his own advantages instead. [1]

History[]

Techno Parachute Landing S4

For more details on the invasion, see Invasion of the Technos.

Series 3[]

When The Guardian escapes from the Mall, he apparently saw the Technos' plane before he was recaptured, telling Lex that "the true bringers of Power and Chaos" are coming. The Techno plane flies over the city and parachute down during the season finale.

Series 4[]

The Techno Plane arrives at the Airstrip while their leader Ram heads for Eagle Mountain for unknown reasons. The Technos were ordered to captured half of the population, which including most of the Mall Rats like Bray, for their slave quota. Some were used for VR experiments while others were deemed useless and sold into slavery. The Technos also managed to capture some of the Ecos despite their camp being deep in the forest.

The Technos later move and reside in the hotel, renamed Ram's Palace, which used to belong to Ebony, a place where they run their base of operations. Jay as Ram's General. Java and Siva were Ram's wives and had considerable control over The Technos as they were Techno Commanders. Jay also said that The Technos are not a tribe.

Although the city was originally hostile to the Technos, they reactivate the city's electricity to everyone's surprise, even giving out food and water. Ram later introduces everyone to Reality Space Headsets, for a game called Paradise, which most of the city becomes addicted to. People are only allowed to play the game if they co-operate on giving labor for the Technos.

But the Mall Rats discover that the Technos had forcibly captured some of the population, including Amber, to be used as test subjects for the Paradise program. This causes them to have extreme fatigue and being unable to distinguish between real and fake. Most of city becomes willing to kill Jay when Ram announces that whoever kills him first will get a lifetime pass to play the game.

Ram's ultimate plan was to have the city's population work for the Technos so he can be put into Virtual Reality Cryosleep forever. The city has enough coals to last a 1000 years and enough virts to work for the Technos. But the Mall Rats and Ecos take down Ram with the help of Techno insider Mega, who leaves Ram to rot in the city's garbage dump.

Series 5[]

After the Mall Rats defeat the Technos, Mega and Java instantly gained power. Mega let the Mall Rats believe they were in charge but he, with the help of Java, created the threat of the Zootists, in order to manipulate the city into thinking they needed the Technos to defend them.

Mega creates a barrier around the city on the justification that it will keep the Zootists and anyone dangerous outside. He also enforces everyone to have a barcode implanted on their hands that is used as entry and exit at the Safe Zone gates. But it can be used to prevent people from leaving the safe zone if Mega wills, like Amber and Trudy. Mega had planned to slowly expand the Safe Zone until he had the whole city under his control.

The Mall Rats soon discover Mega was only using them, but are forced to co-operate. With help from Ram in Liberty, they stage an attack on the city and Mega is captured. However, Mega had secretly created a Virus Mark II that he planned on unleashing as a last resort, which he was unable to activate before his capture. But when Ram's AI causes the Techno computers to go haywire, the AI plans to release the virus as it deemed humanity unfit to live.

At first, Mega didn't want to help to stop it but Ram convinces him on the grounds of who really is the master and the student. Mega dies trying to stop it and the city is evacuated as the virus spreads throughout the city. The Technos were dissolved from this point on, it is assumed those imprisoned by the Mall Rats were allowed to flee the city.

The Tribe: A New World[]

The origins of the Technos are more fully revealed. Before the virus killed the adults, they sent various kids into boot camps to teach them survival skills. The program was called S.E.E.D meaning Survival Education Endurance Development. Ram and Jay met each other in a camp specialising in computer skills. They were taught Information Technology, programming electricity girds, rebooting sewage and other infrastructures. After the adults died, Ram organised that camp into the Technos. [2]

Before Ram conducted the invasion of the Mall Rats city, he met an online person called "KaMi-1314" who he originally believed to be a female but turned out to be male. Kami is the mysterious leader of The Collective, which had ruthlessly gained the power and support of various tribes in their home city and continues expanding. Ram was offered to join The Collective and together they would invade cities, starting with the Mall Rats city.

But Ram was suspicious of Kami and decided to invade the Mall Rats's city on his own. He also reveals he had went to Eagle Mountain to steal Headsets that were ultimately used for the Virtual Reality program at the height of his reign. Ram never told anyone in the Technos about The Collective as he feared they would betray him to Kami. Ram also sent messages to Kami that the virus had remerged and kept The Collective from coming to the city.

Ram believes that Kami, upon realising Ram lied, had sabotaged the Techno computers which caused the AI Zoot to release the Virus Mark II. Ram believes Mega was merely tricked into thinking he was responsible for the Virus outbreak. He even speculates that there might not have been any virus released at all but simply smoke, to scare the city's population into fleeing into the lands controlled by The Collective. The Mall Rats become utterly confused but fearful upon learning this new revelation.

The Tribe: A New Dawn[]

It's revealed that the technology of the Technos mostly hailed from Eagle Mountain, which Ram acquired during his entry into the city. In the hidden 2nd level, the Headsets were originally supposed to be used by the adults to contact each other, but Ram stole them for his Paradise game instead.

Most shockingly, level 3 of Eagle Mountain held an AI called K.A.M.I along with sleeping adults in Cryogenic Units, which Ram stole so he could use it to sleep forever in virtual reality. Ram hid the K.A.M.I computer's existence from all the Technos out of fear they would use it against him and betray him to The Collective. Ram had intended to investigate further, but Mega's tyranny prevented him from doing so. Because The Collective were after all this technology, Jay dies during a battle with the Zootists but Ram survives.

The Tribe: (R)Evolution[]

Ved is revealed to be alive and hiding in the former Techno base in Ram's hometown, after he was banished into slavery by Ram and Mega. Some ex-technos are also with him, who have formed a new tribe called "The Virts" under Ved's leadership. Ram, Jack and Ellie accidentally crash land near the area and were taken prisoners by Ved, who intended on trading them to The Collective for information on Cloe. But upon realising this wasn't what Cloe or Jay would have wanted him to do, he lets them go and travels with them to Eden to reunite with all the Mall Rats.

Trivia[]

  • During pre-production, it was briefly considered that the Technos were going to be adults. Several ideas had been drafted including one where the Supreme Leaders of the Technos were adults that Ram reported back to in the homeland. The mysterious voice that came from the satellite at the end of Series 1 was even considered to have originated from them. But Raymond Thompson abandoned the idea as he felt it was too complicated to introduce, and that it would betray the integrity of the theme of kids left behind to build a new world without adults. [3]
  • The Technos are one of the few tribes to have their own lingo. They refer to non-Technos as "Virts" (derived from the word Virtual) as they consider them second-class and half-living. They use the term "Deleted" to refer to someone as killed or shipping them off as slaves, like deleting a computer file permanently or recycled for other usage.
  • In Series 3 Episode 52, The Guardian calls the Technos "the true bringers of power and chaos." One could argue he was partially correct as Ram produces a computer AI based on Zoot, which independently chooses to try and kill all humans in the City by releasing the Virus Mark II.
    • However, in The Tribe: A New World it's revealed that The Guardian was not necessarily referring to the Technos but to The Collective, which the Technos were briefly apart of before breaking away to conquer the City. The Collective had revived the Zootists which are more fanatical than The Chosen, since they desire their leader Eloise to conceive a child with Bray to continue Zoot's bloodline. The Guardian himself even confirms he was not referring to the Technos in The Tribe: (R)Evolution Chapter 2.
  • The Techno forehead markings are revealed to be tattoos in The Tribe: A New World. Which reveals why Jay and Ram had never gotten rid of their markings. However Ram gets rid of it by scrapping it off with a rock in the aforementioned novel.
    • This revelation however, causes a plot hole with Siva. When she leaves the Technos, she gets rid of her forehead marking with no problem. A theory is that hers was only temporarily and not permanent like Ram and Jay.
  • After the events of The Tribe: (R)Evolution, Ram and Ved are the only notable members from the Technos who are still alive.
