"If we're to create a new world from all this mess, for fair treatment and justice for all as the cornerstones of our new society as they have to be, then there can be no place for this sort of vengeance and retribution. That same justice has to be put in place now, because after a lynching it'll mean nothing!"
―Amber

Amber and Dal hiding

Amber and Dal hiding from the Locos

About nine months[1] after the virus hit and all adults were gone, Amber decided to find a place to live in the countryside with her friend Dal. As they were on their way out of the city they spotted a girl playing in the streets. The Locos' police car was closing in fast, and Amber rescued the girl in the nick of time. Dal wanted to leave Cloe behind and continue on their way to the countryside, but Amber wouldn't leave her. Cloe brought them to her friends Salene, Patsy, Paul and Bob the dog in the playground.

Amber introduced herself and Dal to Salene and her group, but they were interrupted by Lex, Ryan and Zandra, who demanded they hand over their food and threatened to harm the kids unless they did. Luckily, the Locos burst into the playground and chased after the group. Amber took the kids, Dal and Salene and ran the other way, and ended up in a seemingly deserted shopping mall.

Dal searched the ground floor of the mall for food, but found nothing. Lex, Ryan and Zandra - having escaped the Locos - showed up again, still demanding they hand over their food. Jack, who was already living in the mall, lowered the grilles so Lex and his group were captured. After getting a tour of the mall from Jack, Amber and the others were offered to stay in the mall if they helped him find food. They were not hard to convince after being shown the furniture and bedding department, where they all spent their first night. Amber comforted Cloe when she cried because she couldn't find her teddy bear, and told her the mall was their new home - for now.[2]

From the beginning Amber proved herself to be a natural born leader. Responsible, firm, brave and particularly stubborn, she wasn't one to back down from any fight. She became leader of the Mall Rats, and shared the responsibility with Bray and Lex. She first allowed love into her life with Sasha, a traveling performer she saved from being traded by a slave tribe. However it was a short-lived romance, as Sasha wanted to travel and she knew her heart belonged truly to the Tribe.

Jay tries to tell Amber his feelings, and the two share a brief kiss, but Amber backs away from him, telling him that although she doesn't blame him for the death of Bray, they can't ever be together because she feels as though her son would grow up wondering where his father is, all the while she's with the man who was in the organization that killed his father.

The Tribe: A New World[]

Stranded on the trawler in the middle of the ocean, Amber is forced to use all of her diplomatic skills in order to defuse the rising tension within the close quarters amongst the Mall Rats, and use her innate leadership capabilities in order to find a way for them to survive. It is during this time that she also begins to reminisce about Bray, praying that he is somewhere alive and well. Unable to trust Ram, Amber grows suspicious of his continued outbursts concerning a return to the city, a city which was infected by the new virus. She also gets the others to keep an eye on Trudy, who grows more and more hysterical with every day that passes, with her sanity on the verge of complete collapse.

Despite all the trials, Amber leads the Mall Rats to safety onboard the Jzhao Li, and eventually, a mysterious island which now becomes their home. Just like the first moments within the mall, Amber gets everyone into making Camp Phoenix a home, including recovering the cargo from the crashed Jzhao Li. With Ram turning hysterical, Amber asks Jay to try to reach out to him. It is during this time that we begin to learn about the Collective, a tribe formed by Ram’s close friend and rival, Kami. The Collective have an umbrella of tribes under their command, including the Legion, who the Mall Rats soon find themselves facing.

These events also lead Amber to begin to question Jay, and just how he could be so heavily involved in the Technos and not know of any of these developments. The two have a falling out, but come together for themselves and the rest of the tribe. But fate continues to throw trials their way … as Amber is about to be reunited with her long lost love. As the Mall Rats and their new allies, the Natives, make a showdown on the oil rig which is the Legion’s home, the group discover Bray. Amber is overwhelmed to find him again, and is unable to sort out the conflicting feelings rising within her. Jay tells Bray, and her as well, that if they wish to get back together, he would step aside. With the Legion defeated, Amber knows that she will soon be forced to make an agonising choice.

The Tribe: A New Dawn[]

As if attempting to solve the mysteries of the Jzaho Li and the Collective wasn’t difficult enough, Amber is now forced to make a decision between Bray and Jay. Though they both agree to give her time, the situation is far from ideal, and heated exchanges are thrown Amber’s way. Knowing that space is needed for them all, Bray sets off alone to track down Eloise and uncover her ultimate plans involving his brother’s legacy. Jay agrees to go after him. With Trudy captured by the bounty hunter, Connor, and the reveal that Eloise is heading back to the city, Amber makes the hard decision that they have to follow.

Whilst some of the Mall Rats try to fight the Guardian and the Zootists from the mall, Amber, Jack and Ram uncover the secrets of Eagle Mountain’s hidden levels as prisoners of Eloise. It is here that we get confirmation of the hibernation chambers meant to save the ‘best’ of the adults, and an AI core named after Kami. As events come to a head, Eloise is captured and the Mall Rats get their hands on a drive which contains all of the adult’s stored knowledge. With Jay dying to protect the Mall Rats, Amber and Bray agree to rename their child after him.

Trivia[]

  • Series 2 is the only series of The Tribe in which Amber does not appear. Although Amber is shown in the first few minutes of Series 2 Episode 1, Beth does not actually appear in any newly filmed footage. It is archive footage from Series 1 Episode 52. Nor is she credited as being in the episode.
  • Some fans speculate that if Amber wasn't written out in Series 2, she would have done the exact same role as Danni who is seen as the obvious replacement for Amber. Although it is unknown if Amber would have been given the same backstory as Danni, whose father was involved in the creation of the virus. Since Amber showed no hint of knowing about the virus in Series 1, it's likely the virus backstory was created for Danni to make her more different from Amber.
  • Interestingly, both Amber and Zandra were the only ones who disagreed on going to Eagle Mountain. Which is ironic as they were both killed when they were on the mountain (although Amber was revealed to have ended up surviving). [3]
  • It was never explained how Amber recovered from the virus as all the Mall Rats were infected with the 2nd strain near the end of Series 1. After her death was faked, Amber never took the Antidote as she was with the Eco Tribe. The only logical way to explain this is that Amber was never infected in the first place unlike the rest of the Mall Rats, who had to take the Antidote when they found it during Series 2.
  • Amber mentioned she had a sister who got involved in a cult before the virus. [4] The tribeworld articles gave her the name of Solaris, who vanished when the virus struck. [5]
  • Series 1 and 5 are the only seasons where Amber appears in every episode of the aforementioned seasons. Whereas for other seasons, her appearances were sporadic.
  • When Series 5 was still airing, an article was released on Tribeworld.com that teased possible storylines of how the season would end. One of them being that Jay and Amber are distant cousins. None of these teases ultimately came to pass. [6]
  • Amber was voted by fans as 1st Best Heroine in a 2015 poll. [7]
